About Brooks

KHRISTOPHER J. BROOKS is the former state higher education reporter for the Omaha World-Herald. He covered public and private universities and community colleges in the Cornhusker State.

Before coming to Nebraska, Brooks was the business and education reporter for the Bristol (Va.) Herald Courier, where he won second place in education writing from the Virginia Press Association in 2007. Brooks also was an intern for the Associated Press and several Michigan newspapers, including the Lansing State Journal.

Brooks began his journalism career in 2000 and holds a B.S. in News/Editorial Journalism and General Political Science from Central Michigan University.

Brooks’ hobbies include playing basketball and soccer, reading and sleeping. For fun, he likes to travel, write/blog, exercise, toy with small electronics and pretend he’s a page designer. A Detroit native, Brooks is an adamant reader of John Steinbeck, Kate Chopin, Ernest Hemingway, Emily Dickinson, Toni Morrison and other great American authors.
